- Abstract
A framework for understanding what, how, and why Features engineering is done at the Wikimedia Foundation
- Detailed proposal
The vision of the Wikimedia Foundation is to "Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge." And while Wikipedia has grown to a half billion readers and the fifth largest website on the internet, the size of the other half of that equation: the purpose-driven social network that is building the "sum of all knowledge" is small in todays web and getting smaller.
The goal of Features Engineering is to reverse that editor trend. This talk is about 10 concepts in the modern web (such as web affordances, habit loops, viral growth, and gameification) and how they relate to building features on Wikipedia that try to reverse the decline.
