Peer reviews are a way to work collaboratively on high quality content in Wikipedia, and serve at the same time at content creation and community building. In Peer Review, some community member asks actively for help with his article and somebody else helps this person by reading, criticizing and asking. This workshop is designed to bring Wikipedians from all language versions together to share experiences about the Review process on our home Wikipedias. In the end we will have best practices for the Review process that can be used in all Wikipedias to improve this important part of cooperative wiki-work.

Peer reviews put the cooperation in Wikipedia. They are a way to work collaboratively on high quality content in Wikipedia, and serve at the same for content creation and community building. In Peer Review, some community member asks actively for help with his article and somebody else helps this person by reading, criticizing and asking questions - often enough creating great articles in this process. In my opinion, they can exemplify at best what Wikipedia is about: working together to create a great encyclopedia. Some kind of organised Peer Review now exists in 30 language versions of the Wikipedia, leading a life of humble dilligence in the backrooms of Wikipedia.
Yet, Peer Review is often overlooked in favor of the more shiny process like featured article creations or more visible processes like edit-a-thons. In peer review there is nothing to show for and no pictures. Basically it is a more or less intimate and intense process in which two or a few Wikipedians work concentrated on one article.
This workshop is kind of a hands-on-workshop. We will not write reviews, but it will also not be a theoretical presentation of the review process. It is primarily meant for those people already active in this cooperation. The workshop is designed to bring Wikipedians from all language versions together to share experiences about the Review process on our home Wikipedias. Wikipedians will share stories how it is to help somebody in high quality content creation and what it feels like to be helped. They will tell and share how it is possible to criticize somebody on Wiki politely and constructive, what kinds of criticism work and make people come back and what kind of criticism doesn’t.
In the end we will have best practices for the Review process that can be used in all Wikipedias to improve this important part of cooperative wiki-work.
